Welcome It is my pleasant duty and proud privilege to welcome everyone for the 46th Annual Day Celebrations and to place before you the School Annual Report - Grow Green 2009-10. Promises delivered The current academic year began with renewed hope and enthusiasm and a fervent desire to deliver the promises made in the SWOT analysis and annual report 2008-2009. We have certainly struggled hard to enhance excellence in life skills and English speaking among students, co-operation among parents, and team spirit among teachers to keep up the tradition of Rajagiri. Logo âGrow Greenâ The logo designed with inscription of words âGROW GREENâ for the annual day celebration depicts the mission of the school to move towards the 2nd decade of the 21st century and proclaiming the year 2010 as the International Year of Bio-diversity. At this juncture, we pledge ourselves to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development. Fr. Francis Sales remembered The 25th death anniversary of Rev. Fr. Francis Sales CMI, founder of Rajagiri School, was commemorated on 1st October 2009 at a function jointly organized with Rajagiri College of Social Sciences. Honâble Minister Prof. K.V. Thomas inaugurated the function. A. Five Pillars 1. Management: Ours is the first and the only English Medium unaided recognized school with State syllabus under the management of CMI Sacred Heart Province, Kalamassery. The school has grown in stature and size over the last 46 years. At present we have classes from I â XII. The management of the school is proceeding to establish and administer another school, namely Rajagiri Central School under ICSE stream in the ensuing academic year with classes from I-VI. The Provincial Rev. Dr. Fr. Antony Kariyil CMI is the Manager 2. PTA The General Body meeting of the Parent â Teacher Association held on 13th June 2009 elected Adv. Syed Mohammed and Mr. Boban C Francis as President and Vice President respectively. The Mother PTA is organized for the first time. Seminars and orientation classes are conducted by the PTA. Parents and teachers are appropriately involved in decision making process. Parental involvement in the school activities is appreciated. 3. Staff The school is adequately staffed with qualified and experienced teachers in all subject areas of the curriculum. The senior members of the Staff along with new members have significantly contributed for the realization of mission, vision and goals of the school. We have a sincere administrative team and a dedicated supporting staff to look after the educational needs and safety of students. The school celebrated teachers day on 7th September. The Principal greeted the teachers and delivered a speech on the importance of teachers day.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rev. Fr. Jose Alukkal CMI, Vice-Principal and Rector of the Boarding House for his dedicated service over the last seven years. We wish him success in his future ministry. Let us also congratulate our Mathematics teacher, Mrs. Jazz Fermi, who has secured third rank with A grade at State level teaching Aid competition. We deeply mourn the sad demise of the Young playback singer and former teacher of our school Mr.Sainoj who passed away on Nov. 22 2009. He had served Rajagiri school for more than 4 years.

4. Students The enrollment of pupils under ICSE stream is on the increase while admission to the state syllabus shows a downward trend. The demand for the higher Secondary course remains always high. More than 67% are male students. Master Arun Raj of class XII and Ms Janifer Saharan of class X were elected as the school leaders and Cyril Jose of Class XII as the general captain. 5. ROSA (Rajagiri Old Students Association) The Present President of ROSA is Mr. Mathew F Alappat. Every year the bond with ROSA is re-enforced by means of various activities. This year the ROSA members spent a day meaningfully and nostalgically in the campus by playing football, basketball and cricket along with students of Rajagiri. B. Academic Performance appreciated This year, as in the previous years, we achieved cent per cent success in the SSLC and Higher Secondary Examinations. These achievements are definitely the fruits of hard work and commitment of students and teachers. There also exists a well-established mechanism (3 academic assessments + 2 Semesters + CE works) for evaluating a studentâs progress. - SSLC 2009

3. Day of dedication and Accolades to our A+ jewels The usual prayer service on the re-opening day was led by Rev. Dr. Varghese Pudussery CMI, Vicar Provincial. The theme of the prayer service was 'Ishabhakti param jnanam' (Godâs love is supreme wisdom). Conferring of awards to our outstanding performers in the SSLC and Higher Secondary Examinations 2009 was held on the reopening day June 1, 2009. Seventeen students were given awards for their A+ performance. Rev. Dr. George Peter Pittapillil CMI, Director Mitradam, delivered the key note address. A one Act Play was staged by high school students to make the function more colorful.
C. Spectrum of Activities Fabula, kalolsavam, Rhythm, Skola, LCA, Koinonia, etc are the platforms for creative presentation of literary, sports and artistic skills of students, parents and teachers 1. Kerala School Kalolsavam â An arena to showcase innate talents (a) Sub-District Level More than 180 students from LP, UP, HS and HSS sections participated for 89 events at Sub-District level Kalolsavam and secured 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 10th overall position respectively. Besides many A Grades, we achieved 1st rank with A Grade in Group Song, One Act Play(UP&HSS), Pencil Drawing, Oil Painting, Guitar(HS&HSS), Drums, Mridangam, FolkDance, Speech(Eng,Mal,Hindi),English Poetry, Tabala, Bharatanatyam, Deffmuttu, MonoAct (both Boys &Girls) and Orchestra. Ms. Athul Francis, Jeyon George and Ms. Anjaly Krishnadas were declared as the Best actors and actress. (b) Revenue District Level we participated in 23 items. Besides many A Grades, we achieved 1st rank with A Grade in the following items: One Act Play, Orchestra, English Poetry, Mono Act, Malayalam speech, Guitar and Drums. (c) State level Students participated in seven items at State level competition and achieved A Grade in Drums, Orchestra, Kavitharachana (Eng) and B Grade in One Act Play, MonoAct and Speech (Mal). Congratulations!
2. Fabula â to demonstrate multiple intelligences It is an annual interschool festival in Arts and Sports organized from October 9-12, 2009. Its aim is to help pupils develop their multiple intelligences and enhance life skills for a suitable career. It was organized in fond memory of Fr. Francis Sales CMI, the Founder of Rajagiri School. The main events of the celebration were Basketball, Football, Chess, One Act play, General Quiz, painting, Collage and Talent show. More than thousand students took part in various competitions. Fabula really became a Festival of Arts and Balls as a Unique Learning Activity. 3. Rhythm â to hone artistic skills to perfection The name Rhythm, which is an acronym, stands for Rajagiri hones the young talents for a holistic mission. The two-day event Rhythm was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Mathew Vattathara CMI, Director, Rajagiri International School, Dubai. 4. SKOLA â to develop creative writing skills Skola is an online news letter of the school created and published by the computer department with able assistance of a group of teachers and students. They bring out one issue of the magazine every month. We have so far brought out five issues. We are happy to note that the magazine has 34th position nationally. L C A â to develop linguistic and rhythmic intelligence LCA (Literary and Cultural Academy) is conducted to enrich the organizational and artistic talents of the students. All classes made a special effort to showcase their best performances. Students have come out with more than twenty class literary magazines of high quality as part of their activity. A workshop was conducted for Class X, XI and XII on time management. 6. Educational Tour â to experience the transcendent beauty of nature A learner becomes complete only when he literally transcends geographical boundaries. Keeping this in mind, students of classes X and XII went on a study tour to Delhi and Wayanad respectively. Class VIII had their tour to the State capital and Kanyakumari. Others had trips to shorter distances. 7. World Environment Day- to cultivate a sustainable life style The world Environment day was befittingly observed. Mr. A P Murali, FEDO (FACT) spoke on the current year motto "Your Planet needs you - Unite to combat Change". This yearâs event was more meaningful because the students received saplings grown and nurtured in the campus by the nature club members. 8. Nature club â to imbibe the spirit of eco-friendliness Our campus pulsates with the myriad activities of the club. The very medicinal nursery grown, nurtured and owned by the members themselves had almost 10,000 saplings to their credit. The saplings were distributed to the students. 250 saplings were also planted at school and they are nurtured by the members of the club. 9. SFA (Skills for Adolescence) - to build up self- confidence It is a value based education programme fostering skills in responsibility, decision making, communication, self-confidence and goal setting. Students of class VII are given training in these areas. 10. K.C.S.L- to become spiritually mature Kerala Catholic Students League (K.C.S.L) is always active on the campus with the motto âFaith, Study and Serviceâ. The activities of the League were officially inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Jacob Koroth, Director K.C. S. L. Activities like value education classes, weekly prayer meetings, First Friday Holy Mass/prayer service, and practice of church choir, charity offerings, and annual retreat are highly noticeable and appreciable. Catholic students make their confession regularly. A workshop on Group Dynamics and Leadership was conducted for the Plus Two students at Sameeksha (Indian Spirituality Centre), Kalady. 11. Folk lore club- to be rooted in indigenous culture The Folklore club was inaugurated by Dr. Aju Narayan and by Dr. Punnoose of U.C. College at a function held in the school auditorium. Students realize the diversified and enriched value of the folklores through the club activities. Two seminars on folklore were held. The club is dynamic with 165 student members. This year the club brought out a beautiful magazine containing 71 folksongs and studies related to it. The magazine was named âNaattumozhi Seelukalâ. 12. Science club â to evolve a scientific temper Science, Maths and Social Science Fair held at school helped the students to think creatively. Dr. K.V. Promod, CUSAT, inaugurated the fair. Students participated in the sub district and district level science fair and brought laurels to the school. 13. Mathematics Club - to sharpen the logical thinking Abhijith U and Fabiyan A.S won 1st rank with A Grade in Group Project and Manu George Mathew A Grade in Single Project and Salman Faris B Grade in Pure construction. An orientation class on the Art of Learning Mathematics was given to the pupils of class IX and VIII. 14. Social Science â to bring about a historic mind Independence Day, Republic Day, Teachers day, and other days of national and regional importance were celebrated by the Social science club members. Students participated in the sub-district and district level fair and won prizes.
15. IT club â to go always âonlineâ Our schoolâs vision for technology is not just computer and Internet access but rather, an integrated learning and student management system that will allow us to take advantage of all current and evolving technologies. IT club members of the HSS section have conducted a quiz competition for High school students of our school during FABULA 2009 under the name âAgnitio 2009â. 16. Quiz club â to increase the ability to use reason, logic and numbers Two students, Abeeth S and Karthik P. Moothedath have got achievements in quiz at National level. Quiz club along with IT Club has started weekly quiz competitions for UP, HS and HSS students separately during the lunch break in the computer lab. Winners were crowned on every Monday during the morning assembly. 17. Arts and Crafts Club The annual Art Exhibition was conducted on 4th December 2009 with vivid display of artistic creations of budding artist-students, teachers and parents of the school. The exhibition gave every Rajagirian a chance to experience the visual treat prepared by the students. A good number of students were given training in arts and crafts. 18. Sports club â to be aware of the beauty of mind and grace of body Two students, Sreeresh R N and Anandakrishnan S got achievements in National Level for swimming. Our Basketball teams (both Junior and Senior) secured 1st and 2nd places at sub district and Revenue District level competitions respectively. Five students of our school represented Ernakulam District Basketball senior team and secured 3rd place at State level competition. Four students secured 4th place in Table Tennis at state level competition. We secured 1st runner up position in Athletics at sub district level. We were semi finalists in Football at sub distinct level. Two of our students achieved medals in Swimming at national level. The annual sports meet spiced by a spectacular band display was inaugurated by Lieutenant Sudheer Nair. The sports club conducted a camp at Munnar. 19. Health Club â to inspire the young to form healthy habits We encourage the children play and practise exercises regularly. Students are advised to avoid junk food and to take more vegetables and fruits daily. Each class has a cleanliness leader to see whether pupils keep the classroom neat. 20. Hindi Club - to realize the importance of our national language October 14 has been celebrated as Hindi Day in our school. This is a new venture here in our school. 21. Road safety club â to sensitize the road users on safety rules Under the leadership of the RTO, a seminar was conducted on âRoad Safetyâ and pamphlets on road safety were distributed among the passengers in the Bus at Premier Junction, Kalamassery. 22. Exposure Extravaganza â to foster holistic development Students are provided outdoor experiences through participation in external competitions. Students took part in various competitions conducted by schools and colleges, Gov. Departments and organizations like World Malaylee council, YMCA, WWF India, and Stallions. Students also interview experts in many fields and acquire knowledge. 23. Koinonia â to work together is the secret of success The PTA Day, christened as Koinonia, stands for an expression of togetherness and oneness among teachers and parents. It was celebrated on 27th February with great enthusiasm. 24. Onam â to enjoy the rich culture and tradition of Kerala Onam was celebrated on 28th, September. Mr. Venu V Desam was the guest of the day. Everybody enjoyed the class-wise celebration of Onam. A general gathering was also held. Students learned the spirit of sharing, caring and loving others. They played the traditional games also. 25. Christmas â to strengthen bonds of love and affection Christmas has always been special to Rajagiri. It was celebrated on 19th December. There was class - wise celebration also. The school choir mesmerised the audience with their lovely songs in the General gathering. Rev. Fr. Joshy Kootungal CMI, Asst. Vicar, St. Joseph Church, Kalamassery was the guest of honour. Santa Claus made a special appearance to entertain the little children. 26. Childrenâs Programme The L.P. section celebrated many events including Environment Day, Hindi Day, Kerala Piravi Day, Independence Day and Childrenâs day with lots of fun and frolic.
Concluding Remarks
Before I conclude this annual statement I may make the following suggestions: 1. Vision T-20:- An expert committee to be constituted to develop the vision 20/20 for our school to be implemented over the next 10 years 2. Core Group: A core group of âKnowledge studentsâ to be created to take up the challenges in the competitive world 3. Professional Development: A close link with professional educational institutes to be formed for professional growth 4. Character Formation: Mutual understanding and collaboration between the school and parents to be cultivated
